Installing OBIEE 11g Bundle Patch on Windows

Firstly download the Patch from the Oracle site. Patch 17530796 is the top level path and it contains all of the cumulative components patches listed below.

16913445 – Oracle Business Intelligence Installer (BIINST)
17463314 – Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher (BIP)
17300417 – Enterprise Performance Management Components Installed from BI Installer (BIFNDNEPM)
1746339 – Oracle Business Intelligence Server (BISERVER)
17463376 – Oracle Business Intelligence Presentation Services (BIPS)
17300045 – Oracle Real-Time Decisions (RTD)
16997936 – Oracle Business Intelligence ADF Components (BIADFCOMPS)
17463403 – Oracle Business Intelligence Platform Client Installers and MapViewer

The following new features are available in the Oracle BI EE Suite Bundle Patch

  • Support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 10
  • Support for Oracle BI Mobile App Designer
  • Support for Improved Exporting Functionality into Microsoft Excel


  • Install OBIEE version
  • Back up the OBIEE11g>\bifoundation\server directory.
  • Stop all the OBIEE Services (Web Server, Managed Server and System components servers)
  • Check the Interim Patch conflict detection and resolution
  • Set the ORACL_HOME, PATH and JAVE_HOME environment variables as appropriate for your OS.
  • On window, follow the below steps. If the Oracle BI Home directory is D:\OBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1, then set the environment by entering the below commands:
  • Login using the Admin user
  • Clear the files that are associated with the binary cache for the catalog Manager. On window, check in the below folder D:\OBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\catalogmanager\configuration. If there are org.eclipse.osgi and files, just remove them.
  • If you have not already installed the Dynamic Monitoring Service patch 16569379, then download and unzip the file into the Oracle BI Home directory (D:\OBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1\16569379).

Patch Installation Steps

  1. Copy the Bundle patch in the below folder D:\OBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1\17530796.
  2. Open the CMD command prompt using admin rights and navigate to D:\OBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1\17530796 path and apply the environmental variables.

You can apply patch in two ways

  1. Apply patch on all files and the command is opatch napply –skip_duplicate
  2. Apply patch on each file separately.

To apply each patch separately, follow the below steps.

  1. Complete step 1, 2 as stated above
  2. Change the directory to D:\OBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1\17530796\17463314
  3. And enter opatch apply

This command will install that patch, to view the patch installed enter opatch lsinventory.

I have already installed patch 16913445 and now we have installed patch 17463314.

Apply all patches and check the status by entering opatch lsinventory.

Apply Dynamic Monitoring Service patch 16569379 as below

If it asks to shut the oracle instance, shut down the oracle instance, complete the opatch and restart the oracle instance.

Post Patch Installation Steps

Check if all the patches have successfully applied by entering opatch lsinventory command.

Copy the BI Publisher Desktop32 and 64 files from D:\OBIEE11g\Oracle_BI1\clients\bipublisher\repository\Tools to


Start the OBIEE services (Web Server, Managed Server and System components servers)

Open the RPD and click on Help -> About OBIEE

You can see the Version has changed to and the patch had installed the latest RPD version which is 326 (before install it was 325).

Open the OBIEE Analytics, click on Administration and you will see the version has changed to

Reset Weblogic Password in OBIEE 11g

If you have changed your weblogic password and want to reset the same during the OBIEE services star up, following the below process.

1) Navigate to the below locations of your home OBIEE directory.
D:\OBIEE11g_Home\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\servers\AdminServer\security (Weblogic Server)
D:\OBIEE11g_Home\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\servers\bi_server1\security (Managed Server)

2) Rename the file to any name.

3) Restart the services, provide the weblogic id and password.

Note: The weblogic user id and password will be saved in the file.
